Title: A Cross-Country Wedding
Author: Courtney Walsh
Tropes: Best Friends to Lovers, Opposites Attract, Forced Proximity, and ultimately a Second Chances story
When you read a romance novel by Courtney Walsh you can count on two things: thee absolute best, wittiest dialogue and fully fleshed out, brilliant characters. I LOVED Maddie and Simon so much! Maddie is a free spirit, unorganized and chaotic. She wears some of the these characteristics as a shield to protect to herself. She desperately wants to put her creative side out there. Simon is a type ‘A’, a planner (I mean…he orders his coffee on specific days to ensure freshness 😂) and a rule follower. He hides pieces of himself too, but Maddie, he sees all of Maddie. And has from day 1 when they met in college, went on a failed date, and decided to be friends instead.
A Cross-Country Wedding is technically a sequel to A Cross Country Christmas and what are doing if you haven’t read that one yet! However, the author does a great job of painting the picture of the previous road trip of best friends Lauren and Will and why they are repeating it for the lead up to their wedding with vow reciting at each special stop along the way. You’ll be able to follow along just fine.
Maddie is the maid of honor in Lauren and WIll’s wedding. She is dateless at the last minute after yet another failed relationship. So she asks her best friend Simon to be her date. Told mostly from the present day on their road trip (and who doesn’t love a road trip!) it also weaves past tense memories of college days and earlier memories told from both Maddie and Simon’s POV. I love a dual POV and it really added to the slow burn of this story!
The tension in this story is electric. I couldn’t stop reading. In fact, I read through making dinner one night. Oops! The author has bumped up Pub Day from Nov 1st to August 16th, so get your preorders in! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
