It’s no secret how much I love Historical Fiction novels, but as an avid reader of this genre I’m always seeking something different. Enter A True Account by Katherine Howe. This impeccably researched novel features two timelines. First, 1726, which is full of thievery, hidden treasure, the notorious pirate Edward “Ned” Low and girl named Hannah Masury on the run disguising herself as a cabin boy on the crew. Then in 1930 we meet an affluent professor Marian Beresford who is introduced to a copy of Hannah’s story by one of her students. Marian is determined to solve if this is really Hannah’s memoir and if perhaps a treasure is still out there. The only way to solve that? An expedition.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the writing style of this one. Instead of true back and forth dual timeline, the story would shift to Marian as if she was reading the memoir herself. You got a true sense of what she was feeling and experiencing. This book has a great cast of character, is full of feminism + women well before their time, and is just fun with the pirate treasure hunt. A solid read that I can definitely recommend!
