{Thank you @simon.audio @librofmfor the #gifted audiobook Any Trope But You by Victoria Levine! It’s dual narrated by Tim Paige and Jesse Vilinsky. Combined these narrators have over 600 books they have preformed and are top-tier!}
Say hello to a new name in the rom-com world—Victoria Levine—one I think you’ll be hearing a lot about. If this is a debut . . . I can only imagine what’s next! I find something so special about a debut novel; all the hard work and dreams coming true!
I may have mentioned a time or two that I got to live in the Fairbanks, AK area for a few years. Moose, Northern Lights, snow, cross-country skiing, dark days, plugging in your car . . . all of these things defined winter! And believe it or not, I miss it all the time. So any chance to visit this state via the pages, I jump at the chance.
After having her secret spilled—a romance author who doesn’t believe in love—and essentially getting cancelled by the romance world and her fans, Margot Bradley goes on a solo retreat to the remote wilderness of Alaska to write her first murder mystery. She’s under a lot of pressure for success because she takes care of her chronically ill sister, Savannah.
There are meet cutes, then there is Margot’s meet cute. When she arrives at the cabins she will be staying at, there is a moose in her path so she leaps into the handsome proprietor’s arms, Dr. Forrest Wakefield. Trope # 1—check!
As we peel back the layers of this story you quickly realize both main characters are pretending to be happy and people they aren’t. Margot as a murder mystery author and Forest as a glorified bellhop and caretaker for his father, not back in CA in a lab doing his cancer research.
This book was a lot of fun as Margot’s six week stay becomes trope after trope. Will they get there HEA? I highly recommend you read this solid debut to find out!
