Nov. 1st // #nonfictionnovember
Do you read books for non-fiction November? After having a ‘meh’ October and not really being in the mood for #spookyseason (hello…reality is scary enough!) I decided I would play it cool for #nonfictionnovember and not put too much pressure on myself. The plan is to find four books I might want to read. One a week for this not being a go-to genre for me seems like a good goal. I mostly like memoirs or niche subjects here and there.
Might I suggest adding Be Ready When the Luck Happens by Ina Garten for your #tbr? Thank you to @prhaudio #partner for the listening copy. I love listening to memoirs via audio because usually the author narrates them. I think that adds a special touch to the story. I decided I needed a ‘trophy copy’ for my shelves because it includes recipes and pictures.
I feel like in some ways Ina helped me in my twenties figure out how to be a wife and mom. Back then when the ‘Food Network’ channel was more cooking shows vs. the reality shows now, Ina was a staple for me. I loved Barefoot Contessa. She taught me many recipes, how to use the good stuff (don’t save it for a special occasion…life is the special occasion) and I just always admired how much she loved her husband and friends.
I really enjoyed this story. It highlights her childhood, college years, meeting Jeffrey, their marriage, and throwing the towel in on a corporate career for her love food and creating recipes.
“What if the thing I love to do for fun could actually be my work?”
Food is love. Food is memories.
Sometimes we think we’re lucky, but maybe the reality is luck is the chance and hard work + intuition is the success.
