Title: Three Days in June
Author: Anne Tyler
Publisher: Knopf
Genre: Literary Fiction/Novella
Thank you @prhaudio for #gifted the audiobook of Three Days in June by Anne Tyler. While a short novel at only 156 pages, narrator J.Smith Cameron absolutely brought these characters to life!
Anne Tyler is a brilliant literary fiction author. She always manages to write such vibrant characters in everyday run-of-the-mill life. Not much is happening in “Three Days in June” per se, yet actually so much is.
Right off the bat, I loved the main character Gail. She’s a little quirky, lacks people skills, and finds out she’s being passed over for a job promotion. She leaves in a huff because her pride is wounded and truthfully it’s too much to deal with now. Her focus needs to be on her daughter Debbie, who is getting married in a few days. When she arrives home, her ex-husband Max is on her porch needing a place to stay while he is in town for the wedding. His previous arrangements fell through because he’s brought with him a foster cat. 😂
Then a secret comes out about Debbie’s fiancé and it parallel’s with why Gail and Max aren’t together anymore. I enjoyed the past tense just as much as the present day. This is a quick, humorous and thoughtful read that I highly recommend.
