Banyan Moon - Book Club Review

—Book Club Book Review + Author Chat— Title: Bayan Moon Author: Thao Thai Publisher: Mariner Books @marinerbooks Genre: Literary Fiction June @bookofthemonth July @readwithjenna July @bookfriendsbookclub

“But I’ve lived long enough to know that you hold on your joys, small as they are. You wring them out like laundry, until all that’s left is residue scenting the very last bits of your memory.”

Bayan Moon is a lush, lyrical, cultural, multigenerational tale. Author Thao Thai weaved together multiply timelines of three woman you could root for and learn from; but make no mistake, they had their flaws and secrets too. Don’t all families? Isn’t that life? Life isn’t perfect and we are all stumbling along trying to figure things out. But at the end of the day . . . all we have is each other!

“We don’t really know what’s inside another person’s heart”

A book about motherhood and relationships; it shows you it’s possible to have gratitude and resentment at the same time. The mother/daughter relationship can be one of the most complex! I loved how each women could be placed in the same situation and each saw if differently or took some something differently out of it. Everyone has different expectations!

“I’m supposed to say I’m fine. To be the strength for you, but I don’t have it in me today.”

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Thank you to our book club for an amazing discussion and the author for joining us! I highly recommend this book if literary, non-linear, cultural stories are your jam. If not, push yourself out of your comfort zone, you won’t regret it. PS - The author has 2 more books coming in the next 2 years, so get excited!!!
