Short Review: Hello, historical fiction and sports fans . . . This one is for you!

Ace, Marvel, Spy by Jenni L. Walsh is based on, Alice Marble, an incredible American icon that I knew very little about. Some of my favorite historical fiction is when I’m introduced to a strong and tenacious woman in history I knew very little or nothing about. It starts with me reading an amazing book then ends with a trip down the “google rabbit hole” for more. Jenni is an award winning author with more than a decade of experience and sixteen novels, including middle grade. You can expect impeccable research and Ace, Marvel, Spy was no different. In this case, she went right to the horse’s mouth and based her novel largely around Alice’s memoir.

What you can expect:

🎾 # 1 tennis champion

🎾 A steadfast coach who gives tough love

🎾 The editor of the Women Woman comic

🎾 Famous friends

🎾 Devoted family

🎾 Love

🎾 Heartbreak

🎾 A photographic memory

🎾 Spy for the US Army

I love sports, historical fiction and a strong & tenacious female main character. So this book was a match made in heaven. I really didn’t know anything about Alice Marble and enjoyed her story. I absolutely adore her coach “Teach”. I would recommend this to all HF lovers, but especially those who enjoy a story that isn’t as centered around war. I really enjoyed the audiobook narrated by Gail Shalan. The last 20% had my heart racing! Out now!

“Hope was a type of drug. Perhaps the most addicting kind.”
