{Thank you @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook! It’s narrated by Alex Finke who has quickly become a favorite narrator of mine. She can deliver a performance!}
With a nudge from her good friend, who is also a roommate, Bennet heads out on a dating app date. You see, Bennet has been grieving the loss of her first love and has sort of just stalled out by working temp jobs in NYC. She can’t commit to anything, but her friend thinks she’s ready.
“It’s like my grief has tethered me to myself, the walls of sadness like shrink-wrap surrounding all sides of me, until I can barely breathe.”
Only when Bennet shows up for the date, she bolts. And then gets epically smashed on too much wine at the restaurant across the street. There she crosses paths with Henry, the guy she was supposed to go out on a date with. Oops! She confesses she’s not ready to date and is feeling pretty passionateless in life, in general. Henry and Bennet really do click, so Henry proposes to be her passion coach and they will meet once a week to try new things—art, sports, a possible career—whatever it takes. He will help her find something to be passionate about.
“Having your shit together is not a prerequisite for love.”
I think you can probably see where this is going, but sometimes it’s the journey and not necessarily the destination. The journey of discovering in this is deeply moving. It’s full of banter, flirting, fun and I think this debut author is going to become a new favorite!
“Im reminded that happiness doesn’t need to be shrouded in guilt. Love doesn’t need to shrouded in disbelief. Sometimes it just is. And that’s enough.”
If you were a fan of Promise Me Sunshine by Cara Bastone, I think you will like this one too!
