Family Family - Book Review

📚Book Review📚

It’s #Fivestarfriday and have I got a good one! Family Family by Laurie Frankel was one of my favorite reads last month. Family Family shines a spotlight on adoption and the unconventional family. It’s really a thought provoking read, but my gosh is it funny and witty. The characters each have a unique place in our main character, India Allwood’s, family; and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s an actress and storyteller and I enjoyed being apart of the journey.

“In every way I can think of, you, India Allwood, are a star. I’m just lucky I’m nearby enough to catch your light.”

This is the type of book and characters you’re thinking about and eager to get back to. It’s a dance as you get closer to the end because you want to savor every part, and never let it end, but you have to know what’s going to happen too!

“There are lots of ways to make a family. Suggesting yours is tragic unless everyone’s blood related isn’t serving anyone. Some might argues happy kids don’t need their stories told. Everyone needs their stories told, and not just told. Celebrated.”

This book is told in a dual timeline. The past takes us through India as a teenager, in a college, and starting out as an actress. The present timeline is told over the course of a few days. The past is marked in years, the present by days of the week. It’s weaved together just right to keep the story flowing. I loved it!

In the present day India recently did a movie about adoption, but as it comes time to promote it she starts to realize the ugly truth that it’s the same old same old story being told. She decides as an adoptive mother to ten year old twins she wants everyone out to know her thoughts and instead of toeing the line during an interview about the movie tells everyone the truth that the movie just isn’t very good. She knows first hand other stories about family. She then finds herself in a media storm and without her knowledge her twins call in backup . . . family!

“I wanted to help you. I didn’t want you to have to go alone. “Exactly.” “Family Family.”

Bright, quirky, heartwarming, unique . . . all the adjectives . . . all the love. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
