Genre: YA Fantasy
You know the question: “What book would you bring with you do a desert island”? My answer is now always going to be LEGENDBORN! I think I could read it a couple more times just to understand better the hierarchy and family tree of the story. Then read it many more times because it’s freaking awesome! ⬅️ Says the chick who doesn’t read fantasy!
***So, Legendborn is a retelling of sorts of King Arthur. ***
After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen year old Bree needs a fresh start. She gets accepted and enrolls into a residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC Chapel Hill. This seems like the perfect escape until the very first night there, Bree witnesses a magical attack! What the heck!?
A flying demon feeding on human energies.
A secret society of so-called “Legendborn” students who hunt these creatures down.
And a mysterious mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts, but fails to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw.
The magic failure reveals Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory . . . The night her mother died at the hospital another Merlin was there!!! Now Bree will stop at nothing to find out more about her mother’s death. She recruits a self-exiled Legendborn, Nick, who has grudge with the group. Bree has to decide how far she’ll go for answers.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 For a still mostly fantasy newbie, I loved this book! I just wish the family tree wasn’t so confusing! It’s hard to enjoy something to the fullest extent when you are confused. I also think the book was just a smidge on the long side. I can’t wait to read the next book! I’m all in!
