Woo, boy, can author Terah Shelton Harris write some characters!

Emotional. Personal Battles. Secrets. Drama. Family. Letting Go.

“Don’t let the white man take the house.”

Those were the last words King Soloman says to his son before he died. Now all four Soloman siblings must come home to North Carolina to save the Kingdom, their ancestral home on two hundred acres.

“The key to running away is knowing when you’ve been somewhere long enough.”

💫 Cast of Characters 💫

▪️Junior - The oldest son married with two kids that is secretly in love with another man.

▪️Mance - The second son who has anger problems and has been in and out of prison. He’s trying to do better for his girlfriend, who he wants to marry, and their newborn son.

▪️CeCe - A lawyer in NYC who has secretly been embezzling money from her firm’s clients.

▪️Tokey - The baby of the family who has developed into an emotional eater. She never quite feels like she fits into the family.

I loved the way each character got a POV in the story. Lots of drama and twists and turns, but I was satisfied with the ending. I think the author did a great job putting a spotlight on “Black heir property” something I didn’t know much about.

“See what secrets did? How they hurt? We have to be honest with each other. Say the hard things out loud. We have to come together as a family.”
