Spells For Forgetting

—Book Review—

Title: Spells For Forgetting

Author: Adrienne Young

Publisher: Delacorte Press

Genre: Mysterious Fantasy

No one writes like Adrienne Young. Her writing is GORGEOUS! But. This was such a slowww burn for me. Slow. And it was way more mystery than magic. With a title that includes the word Spells, I’m feeling slightly duped. There were some unanswered things for me too. What the heck was so special about this apple orchard!?

Now, despite the slow burn I will tell you I was hooked from the very first page. The atmosphere in this book is amazing. I’ve been to the Pacific Northwest and remote areas of Alaska and the way she described this Island that you could only get to by ferry was so freaking good! The fog, the eeriness, so so good!

“There are spells for breaking and spells for mending. But there are no spells for forgetting.”

Here’s the deal: Emery’s life changed when her best friend was killed when they were teenagers. August was accused of murdering her. With constant looks and stares, August was forced out of the small island town. He’s back now many years later to bury his mom that recently passed away. In and out is the plan. Simple; except Emery and August used to date. And August was supposed to inherit his families apple orchard, but the town took it over…

Rating: I love that this is dual POV. I really want to give this a 4, but its probably more like a ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 for me. I really liked it, but I didn’t love it like I was expecting. I’m wondering if it’s me because this was such an anticipated fall read for me that I set the bar too high. That’s not fair. Hmmm I still recommend this one. Just go in thinking atmospheric mystery!

Short review: That was a lot of drama for a bunch of apples 🤣
