Spells for Lost Things

—Book Review—

Title: Spells for Lost Things

Author: Jenna Evans Welch

Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Genre: YA

I have such a sweet spot for YA so I knew I was going to like to this book, but oh my gosh did I love it! The plot, the characters, the elements . . . it had it all! I’ve read this author before and I think this just may be her best book yet.

Willow has never really felt like she belonged anywhere. Not since her parent’s divorced and her mom moved her cross-country to LA and threw herself into her work; leaving Willow to fend for herself, mostly. She’s ready to be done with high school and travel the world. The summer before her senior year her mother gets a phone call sending them to Salem, MA for her to deal with some family affairs. (and secrets! Willow never knew about)

“We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.”

Mason is a star-gazing loner-boy who has been in and out of foster care much of his life. One night on one of his nightly walks to have some time to himself from his foster family he serendipitously meets Willow and it changes everything for him!

What you’re in for:

❤️ Willow & Mason on a scavenger hunt (+ and teeny bit of young love)

🧭 Uncovering family history + family curse

✨ Found family (Including Mason’s foster sisters who glitter bomb him and cast him in a play + teen foster sister who loves sloths )

🧙 Great Aunts who are witches

🥹 Coming of age, heartwarming and belonging

📒 Mason’s star log book (this boy has been through so much! What a character 🥹)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Needless to say I loved this book! Even though this book takes place in the summer and certainly has a fair amount of coastal and beachy vibes it equally feels like fall in Salem with a curse, aunt’s who are witches and the special house Willow’s mom came to sell. I highly recommend this one!
