The bravest book I’ve read
Title: What Does It Feel Like?
Author: Sophie Kinsella
Publisher: The Dial Press
Genre: Novella
Thank you to @randomhouse @thedialpress for the #gifted copy of ‘What Does It Feel Like?’ by Sophie Kinsella. I’ve been a big fan of Sophie for over two decades. She paved the road to the genre “chick lit”. Her books taught me it’s okay to just read for fun. To laugh a lot. That not every book needs to be a classic or teach you something. Except, sometimes those funny books with amazing characters become just that!
‘What Does It Feel Like?’ is absolutely the bravest book I have ever read. This “fictionalized memoir” chronicles through the main character Eve what the author’s life has been like before, during and after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Despite the subject matter, Sophie’s signature humor still shines through in this book.
As readers we lean on books during difficult times and I imagine writer’s do the same with their writing. I can only imagine how trying it is to answer the same questions you don’t want to over and over again.
This book is a gem and I hope it offered Sophie a chance to just forget and be her old self for a while. I hope anyone that reads it and is going through something similar doesn’t feel alone. I wish Sophie, her husband, five children, and extended family well. Much love and prayers.
This book deserves nothing less than FIVE STARS.
