—Readathon Book Review— Title: The Family Game Author: Catherine Steadman Publisher: Ballantine Books (Penguin Random House) @penguinrandomhouse Genre: Thriller Thank you @tandemcollectiveglobal for having me along for this read along group! It was a fun group speculating who we trusted and didn’t. [Ad-PR-Product]
If you like the YA book The Inheritance Games, this feels like a very adult version of that! I loved it! The author immediately gives you a very likable main character in Harriet (Harry), a British author who has moved to NYC be with her boyfriend. After the absolute perfect proposal (I won’t spoil that) it’s finally time to meet her fiancé Edward’s family. But his family isn’t your typical family, they are very old money, powerful and just beyond stinkin’ rich. Kind of intimidating for Harry and the author takes the reader right along not knowing who in the family to trust! It was wild!
The title of this book is really quite literal. The Holbeck family likes to play games. From Thanksgiving, to Krampus night, to their traditional Christmas Eve scavenger hunt, this one is full of secrets and murder. Dun, Dun, Dun.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A very bingeable book. I liked the way each chapter was titled with the event in play. Just an all around fun book and a pretty good twist. It does slightly go off the rails a little at the end, but still wraps up well. I recommend this one and its out now in paperback!
