Title: The Summer of Yes
Author: Courtney Walsh
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Thank you @thomasnelson for the #gifted The Summer of Yes ARC. Friends, I finished this one back in June, but between a houseful of guests and feeling unable to put into words how much I loved this book and how much it spoke to me, I’m just now getting around to my review. It’s works out perfectly because this is, for sure, a #fridayfavorite
This book is about a young girl, Kelsey, who is always playing it safe, a workaholic, and terrified to follow her dream of becoming a writer. She’s a dreamer not a doer. Kelsey works as an editor finding the talent. But maybe, just maybe, she is the talent…
The premise is simple, Kelsey has a near death experience when she gets hit by a car on a busy NYC Street. When she wakes up in the hospital she has a roommate named Georgina, a famous cosmetics CEO whose kidney’s are failing. Georgina gives her some sound advice:
“I wish I’d said yes more.”
“To the fun things in life, you know? I always chose work over everything. It suited me. But it cost me too. Nothing comes without a cost, young lady, and only you can decide if you’re willing to pay it.”
This ignites Kelsey, not just for her, but Georgina too. She becomes determined for both of them to go on a purposeful road trip adventure and say ‘Yes’ to things.
“But will it set your soul on fire?”
This book is filled to the brim of Courtney Walsh’s signature moving quotes and a hopeful story. She writes such relatable and realistic characters.
This book spoke to me because due to some chronic conditions I don’t feel like myself most days. I desperately want to say yes to more things too. I feel like life is passing me by and I really want to figure out how to marry the old me and new me better.
My first yes was getting my sketchbook and paints out even if I’m not feeling well. I always have fun and feel happy when I do!
I hope you read this book and say yes to things in your life too! You won’t regret it.
