Thank you @macmillan.audio for the listen copy of The Trail of Lost Hearts by Tracey Garvis Graves. She is a favorite author who I can count on to write stories that pack a little extra punch. This is dual narrated by Eric Meyers and Kate Handford. I thought they did a great job conveying the many emotions this book required for both characters. I binged this in 24 hours. It was one of those reads that you do all the chores to keep listening. You all know what I’m talking about, right!?
"His exterior might not be covered in sharp spikes like mine is, but he has been guarding the interior since on that hiking trail. I didn’t realize that getting to know him would be like peeling an onion, each layer revealing more than the one that came before it.”
Wren and Marshall meet while out geocaching on the trail in the PNW. Wren finds herself in a very scary situation and Marshall comes to her rescue. That was the last thing she needed because she had travelled out there to find herself again after going through a life altering change.
Psychologist, Marshall, appears to be in his natural element hiking and offers for Wren to team up with him for the rest of her trip so she won’t have anymore incidents. Wren really wanted to do the trip solo and find herself, but reluctantly agrees it’s her best option. Only as their trip continues does she realize Marshall is also going through something equally painful and somehow even though she doesn’t want to they are connecting on a deep level.
“Anger is just sadness coming out sideways”
But, it’s clear they first both must grieve apart. What a journey for these two characters; This book had me by the claws and I couldn’t stop reading about these too. Love and grief may seem like polar opposites, but I feel like the go hand in hand.
“It’s just that I love you and I’m happier when my birds are here in the nest.”
I highly recommend this one! 🥹 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
❓Have you ever been geocaching? I haven’t, but it sounds so fun!!
