This Summer Will Be Different - Audiobook Review

Title: This Summer Will Be Different

Author: Carley Fortune

Publisher: Berkley

Genre: Romance

Thank you @prhaudio for the #gifted listening copy of This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune. It’s narrated by A.J. Bridel and the author herself. I love when a dual POV book has a narrator for each character. I flew through this one!

Fortune is an author I now look forward to each summer. I don’t know if this writing pace is sustainable, but I sure hope so! Her books have a knack for setting the scenery very well. This year we are headed to Prince Edwards Island (PEI) with long walks on the beach, red cliffs, sunshine, fresh coastal air, oysters and crisp vinho verde! I mean, come on, how great does that sound!?

I loved the romance of Lucy and Felix, and the friendship of Lucy and Bridget, but I’m torn on some of the set up on our journey of a happily ever after between these friends and couple.

Lucy first meets Felix five years ago. She hooks up with the handsome guy shucking oysters at the restaurant she finds herself at when her best friend Bridget’s flight gets delayed. Bridget has always called her brother by his nickname Wolf. So Lucy had no idea Felix was Bridget’s brother. Bridget makes Lucy promise she won’t fall in love with her brother. He’s had his heart broken and she lost a friend as a result, so she doesn’t want to go through that again. I mean I get it, but also I’m not a big fan in books when a sibling forbids a romance and love.

I also was scratching my head why in the present day they all find themselves on the island again because Bridget has a secret that is upsetting her right before her wedding. A secret she won’t tell anyone. It just felt like a weird way to get everyone together again and add tension to the story.

I loved all the flashbacks of the history of Lucy and Felix. And felt satisfied with the ending. So a lot hits for me in this story and a few misses. All in all a great summer romance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
