Three for Thursday // Mini Reviews
I have three reviews today for books I really loved. What do they all have in common? The main female characters are all in their late 30s, 40s & 50s. Hey publishers…more books with older characters with experience and situations to share, please!
It’s Getting Hot in Here by Jane Costello - Lisa Darling has a full plate. She’s a big time tv executive, divorced, has one son with a pregnant hamster (LOL), another son in the thick of his teenage years testing boundaries, a co-worker and best friend fighting cancer, and then what to do about the charming guy who is filling in while her friend is out of the office. This book is heartfelt, has relatable characters and will literally make laugh out loud. Thank you @zibbypublishing and @librofm for my #gifted copies.
The Snowbirds by Christina Clancy - This book is told in a non-linear timeline, so it takes a little to settle in. It’s totally worth it, though, because you’re going to love these characters and story. Sometimes you have great main characters and sometimes you have great secondary characters, but when a book has both—it’s truly magic! This story begins with a missing person, partner Grant, on a hike. Then we get some back story on Kim and Grant, a couple who has been together for thirty years, but never married. Lastly, we are in present day Palm Springs (so charming) where Kim wanted to flee to from their Wisconsin home for the winter. Grant wasn’t as on board. An excellent examination on relationships & communication. Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the listening copy.
Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens - Sophie’s books have become a staple for me. She writes realistic, relatable, and hilarious characters and situations. Anna is newspaper columnist and somehow gets roped into the pitch of her children picking dates for her. What could go wrong? Why does she agree to this? Her office nemesis is trying to take over her column! This office place romance and enemies to lovers trope will deliver all.the.feels! Thank you @prhaudio for the audiobook.
